I had friends over on Tuesday for lunch. I met these friends 15 years ago when I started teaching at their school. Now they have all retired. As one arrived, she said, "I just love being retired. I am so busy, I don't know how I would get it all done if I was still working!" I loved hearing all their stories relating to the next chapter, even though for me, it feels very far away.
As they left, I found comfort in knowing there is so much to do each day, no matter what our age or stage in life! They kindly brought me flowers and gifts. So as the weekend begins, I still am remembering these great ladies as I see them all around my house.
Retirement is a wonderful phase of life. There are so many avenues to explore.
ReplyDeleteI know I will be happy once I retire. I always mange to keep myself busy during summer vacation, I have interests outside of school and I do volunteer work. My biggest fear is that I will need to keep working longer than others because I moved around a lot my first ten years of teaching and didn't get a job with a retirement plan until I moved to the school district I am now in. No one talks to you about retirement in teacher's college!
ReplyDeleteThat's still a long ways off for me - but I loved reading about these busy and happy ladies, Sally - clearly, they were ready!

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful time to look forward, too. It's wonderful that all of your friends are thriving in their retirement. How sweet to bring gifts - you must have great relationships.

ReplyDeleteThey know you well- a sweet treat, cute bunnies, yellow roses for remembrance, and they even know your middle initial for the monogramming! Most of all, they know you value friendships and conversation and reflection, as comes through in this post.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful friends bearing lovely gifts! What a great way to spend the day!! Retirement is far off for me too, but I watch my mom and some of my friends enjoying it. That makes me happy.
